He attended Gwagwarwa Primary School Kano, in Kano State 1966-1972; Barewa College Zaria, in Kaduna State 1974-1977; Katsina College of Arts, Science and Technology Zaria, in Kaduna State 1978-1980; Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, in Kaduna State 1980-1983, from where he graduated with a Law degree Second Class (Lower). He was admitted to the Nigerian Bar and became qualified to practice as a Solicitor and Advocate of the Supreme Court of Nigeria in 1984. Thereafter, Abdullahi conducted the mandatory NYSC programme at the Nigerian Military Police School at Bassawa in Zaria in 1985, where he instructed Military Police personnel on basic principles of Law.

Abdullahi started his working career as a State Counsel in the Hon. Attorney General’s Chambers of Kaduna State at the Ministry of Justice Kaduna, between 1986 and 1991. In 1991, he joined the erstwhile Habib Nigeria Bank Limited as an Assistant Manager (Secretarial) and rose to the position of Company Secretary/Legal Adviser in 1995. He held this position and rose in rank to Deputy General Manager, until the Bank merged with Platinum Bank Plc to become Platinum Habib Bank Plc, during the consolidation exercises witnessed by the Nigerian Banking Industry in 2006. The bank later became Bank PHB. In the new Bank, Abdullahi became the Group Head, Legal/Compliance; consequent upon which he was assigned and designated with the responsibility of Chief Compliance Officer of the Bank. These positions he held jointly until he voluntarily retired from the Bank in 2009.

Abdullahi returned to private Legal practice since August 2009, as a Partner in the Law firm of Messrs Hali Chambers whose main office is situate in Kaduna. He headed and handled most of the corporate assignments in the firm.

In April 2015, Abdullahi was offered employment as an Executive Director (Legal)/Company Secretary in Niger Delta Holding Company Ltd (NDPHC). NDPHC has developed Generation Assets comprising of Ten (10) Gas Fired Power Plants with a Combined Design Capacity in excess of 5,453 MW, as well as many Transmission and Distribution Assets. As the Company Secretary/Legal Adviser, Abdullahi Salisu was involved in many discussions with potential international investors from various parts of the world, which culminated in the preparations and executions of various MOUs. However, in its wisdom, the Federal Government of Nigeria relieved the entire management of the NDPHC in June 2016.

Because of his employment in the banking sub-sector for 18 years, Abdullahi acquired vast experience in Company Law practice, Commercial negotiations, Arbitration, Loans/Credit Documentations and Debt Recovery amongst others. Similarly, Abdullahi has had many contacts and wide knowledge about the Nigerian Power Sector and its intended Reform during his stint with the NDPHC.

During Abdullahi’s sojourn in the Banking Industry, he attended various local and foreign Management courses, notable amongst which were the Executive Management Development Programme at Witwatersrand University Johannesburg, South Africa in July 2003 and Achieving Outstanding Performance Programme at the prestigious INSEAD at Singapore Campus in June 2007.
